And finally, in the third drop down, choose your system model. We have found that using our Memory Finder to find the memory you need is the quickest and easiest way to find your memory.
How easy is it to install memory?
We always recommend you check your system owner's manual.
In general, use the following guidelines when installing new memory:
- Always first ground yourself prior to handling your memory.
- Shutdown and power off your system.
- Unplug the power cord or remove the battery if laptop.
- Open the case (desktop, servers, printers) or memory compartment (laptops)
- Locate the memory sockets on the motherboard
- If replacing existing memory, remove current memory module(s)
- Place your new memory module in the open socket while insuring the memory notches line up with the socket notches.
- Push your new memory module straight down (45 degree angle for laptops) until the retaining clips on either side of the socket snap into place securing the memory in the socket.
- Replace the power cord and turn on your system to verify the new memory has been recognized.
- If the memory has been recognized replace the case cover.
- If the memory has not been recognized double check the memory has been correctly installed.
How much memory do I need?
The amount of memory each user requires depends on the type of programs you plan on using. As a general rule, when upgrading your memory, we recommend installing the highest capacity memory module in each memory socket. This will prevent you from needing to throwing away memory if you choose to upgrade again later. Check your system product page to find how much memory your system can support.
Why should I upgrade my memory?
Upgrading your memory will reduce the time it takes your system to boot up, programs will load faster, and you will be able to run more programs at one time. These speed improvements will allow you to spend more time using your computer and less time waiting on your computer.
