What type of memory do I need?

Different systems require different types of memory. This can be a confusing process if you don’t know what Type of Memory your system requires.

We have made this process of finding the correct type of memory easy.

Your Apple iMac 600MHz S.E. Graphite (Slot Load) uses PC-100 memory and can be upgraded up to 1GB.

The Apple iMac 600MHz S.E. Graphite (Slot Load) usually ships from the manufacturer with 128MB of RAM. In some cases, when upgrading, you will need to remove the existing memory and replace it with your new, higher capacity memory modules.

When upgrading, we recommend you install the largest capacity memory module in each available memory socket. Your iMac 600MHz S.E. Graphite (Slot Load) system has 2 memory Sockets. These memory sockets hold each memory module in place.

Memory sockets are grouped into Banks on the motherboard. These Banks consist of one or more memory sockets, and your motherboard can have one or more memory banks.

If a motherboard has a bank with two or more memory sockets, then a “Memory Kit” is required. These memory kits are simply more than one, usually two or four, identical memory modules.

Memory kits are shown on the Upgrade Options Tab as “2x” and then the single module capacity. For example, 2x1GB would consist of two, 1GB memory modules for a total of 2GB. A 4GB memory kit would consist of two or more like modules that total 4GB.
